Question #1:
Could Psychology of Motivation Save the US Economy?
Could the US Economy Be Saved by "Jobs Creation Prizes"?In the past I have suggested prizes to get energy independence technology breakthroughs, and my suggestions were roundly ignored by the Powers that Be.
I'm from Manhattan -- I have Tude -- I'm still here -- and so, not giving an inch, here is my Modest Proposal for Today ---
National prizes for Job Creation.
These jobs have to last at least 24 months.
They can't be given to relatives or people already associated with the Job Creator Prize Contestant.
The prizes will be awarded on or about 15 January 2012.
They will be based on jobs created between 1 January 2011 and 1 January 2012.
The top ten contestants with jobs created about 10,000 jobs will get the prizes.
The prizes are twofold:
1. A Congressional Gold Medal as an Economy Booster -- and this comes with a large Certificate that states the Gratitude of the Nation, and that outlines in some detail the precise achievements of the medal winner. This would have a blue ribbon and a gold Congressional seal on it. It would come ready for framing.
2. A cash award of $10,000,000 (Ten Million dollars)
The jobs have to be for citizens of USA, performing at least 90% of the job duties in USA, while speaking English, and using skills learned by experience, in High School, or in College.
The jobs have to be profitable for the organization that hires the person. They can't be fake make-work jobs that just p*ss away money to get the gold medal. Each employed person must marginally contribute net profit to the firm that hires him/her.
Within this framework the jobs can be any legal activity. Drug dealing is not OK, but legal porn is OK, and import/export is OK, and manual labor crafts are OK, and intellectula work (researtch and writing) is OK, and farming is OK, and pavement laying, and making music, or art, or manufactured goods, or selling Pizzas or window caulk.
If the contestant commit criminal fraud by breaking the rules, or sneaky activities, then they will be personally prosecuted and get jailtime if that's what a jury decides.
So the contestants have skin in the game.
It's not a freebie giveaway program where they can cheat their way to victory and walk away with the cash and the medal scott free. They are at risk if they cheat. They can lose their liberty.
Ego is a world driver. More for men than for women. But that's OK. It's a fact.
You harness up that Ego for the National Good, and we might find a pathway out of our doldrums.
If the program works as planned, then for the next two year cycle, we can bump it up to 50 prizes of only $5,000,000 (Five Million dollars each). Once the new thing has been done, and people "get" how it works, you don't need as much money to bring contestants in to the process. That was never a major incentive anyway. It was just there so that folks would know that if they won, some of their expenses would be defrayed, and their personal bank account would get bigger -- so it's worth their time to at least consider.
Once tens of thousands of business people know the prizes are worth their time, you don't need to over-incentivize them with cash. The gold medal and the certificate is almost reward enough.
Ideally, you want the prize money to go down to around $1,000,000 (just to pay for overhead and marginal up front costs), and the number of prizes to go to 100 every year.
At some point you are creating a lot of new jobs.
Not by government "stimulus" stupidities. But by incentivizing the Ego drive in Business Personages.
One of these medals is a great resume item for folks in the CEO Circle.
It's almost like an alternative to Gates/Buffett style Foundation work.
This is better than giving money away -- it is teaching people to fish.

The answers so far indicate that you are not thinking "outside the box" with me. People are talking in terms of the standard routine variables -- taxes regulaion -- aggregate demand that we all learned about in Econ 101.
For this question -- come with me outside the box. My implicit premise is that individual persons -- egos, personalities -- personas -- people can be a brand new resource -- never thought of before - since everyone was staring blankly at the standard variables.
I say that one thing is very plain to me in this world -- individual people can make a huge difference. If Warren Buffett decided that his top and only priority in the next 12 months was to create 100,000 good new jobs HE could do it.
So could Bill Gates.
So could 50 other super high achiever individuals.
Whatever they want to get done -- these people can get done, and not just becuase they are rich. They are Ultra-Effective Individuals.
They make things happen you never learned in Econ 101.

Who owns what is found in the ground?
I have to answer this question for Western Civilization. My teacher asked me, who do you think owns what is found in the ground? We are studying Ancient Greece and we just studied Heinrich Schliemann, he found gold, art, ect. from Troy and he kept it for himself, so the teacher wanted to know who do you think should keep the stuff if you find something like that? Should it be the person who found it or should it be the people whos land your diggin in?? :DQuestion #6:
How to remove acrylic paint from a gold ring.?
My wedding band is white gold and I was working on an art project using yellow acrylic paint. The paint seems to have stained the bottom of my ring! It isn't thick enough for me to scrape or peel off, it is just tinted yellow. Please tell me how I can remove this! I've tried cleaning it myself with jewelry cleaner and also had it cleaned at the jewelers where it was purchased but I can still see the yellow tint. HELP PLEASE!!Question #7:
I've been wondering about the attitude of people.?
I was thinking last night about how I could go into another section of Y.A. and have a two or three page discourse with a group about something and not once be told I was wrong or that I needed to change my views. For example, I could pop into arts and humanities or the entertainment section and start discussing The Hitchhikers Guide. We could ramble on about how Zaphod should have kept the Heart of Gold or maybe passed it on to Ford, and nobody would get angry, there would be no doomsaying, or argument on the ship not being part of the plot anymore. I could ask opinions on Arthur's role in human evolution, and how he saved the world from certain destruction. We would laugh and joke without offending anyone. The subject would hardly stray from the story, and everyone would understand that the point is not to destroy another man's psyche, but to debate what is written. We all know it's a work of fiction, even if some have given to a cult-like following.
Why then, can those who continue to rant about the bible being fictitious, who I know would join me in the other room with Trillian, Arthur, and Marvin, can they not simply take this other book for what is written? I mean both books have beings from outside of earth, both have a story about a guy who saved us from being utterly destroyed, there's even a part about god making awesome sandwiches. Seriously, if the bible is just a fiction, then laugh and smile and contemplate the tale. And remember, the ones who are telling you that the Vogons are coming are not dillusional, they are jsut wrapped up in the story.
Guys, Arthur came and left, and came back. The world is fine. The mice have it all under control. Oh, and I don't believe you when you say the dolphins are leaving.
@ another jedi- I think Zaphod will forgive me.
Question #8:
Church of England people - funny or offensive?
Someone posted this here on Saturday night and I´m still laughing -Click Here
Two questions:
1. Do you find it funny?
2. Do you happen to know the name and composer of the original hymn, and are you familiar with it? It´s stuck in my head and I quite like it!
BTW, The original words are:
Blessed city, heavenly Salem, vision dear of peace and love, who of living stones art builded in the height of heaven above, and, with angel hosts encircled, as a bride dost earthward move; from celestial realms descending, bridal glory round thee shed, meet for him whose love espoused thee, to thy Lord shalt thou be led; all thy streets and all thy bulwarks of pure gold are fashioned

Question #11:
Are you disgusted by LAUSD's half BILLION $$ new high school?
Gold leafed mosaics, state of the art auditorium, private park, etc etc...Meanwhile hundreds of teachers have been laid off, hundreds of substitute teachers have been laid off to compensate for the laid off teachers, last year dozens of teachers in many schools had to resort to using 3x5 note cards to take daily attendance, schools are still using very old field equipment, school trips have been canceled, after school art and sports programs have been canceled, hundreds of school psychologists, nurses, counselors, teacher's aids, parent volunteers, etc have been laid off......... and the list goes on.............yet LAUSD still used half a billion dollars to build a state of the art high school?????
Granted, the money was used from a special account, we voted to have it used this way, but really? couldn't the LAUSD just stop and use this money in other ways? How many jobs could have been saved using half a billion dollars?????
Still the drop out rates soar to around 60%, and that's not an exaggeration, there are still schools in the San Fernando Valley with earthquake damage from the 1994 Northridge Quake, etc, etc, etc.
How do you feel about this situation?
Question #12:

Question #14:
Halloween Costume: Mascerade Twist. Skirt and top?
Ok so I like me some holidays so I'm always super prepared in advanced. Anyway I plan on doing a mascerade twist costume. I'm putting it together my self as in I'm not buying a costume from a store because they can be over priced. So I already have the mask. I made it in art last year. So the color of the outfit would have to be white and gold or just white. The twist is I'm doing a corset top (like one from walmart that has a pic of a corset instead of an actual corset) lol. So anway I need help finding a very poufy skirt. And iI mean POUFY! like I want the skirt to be wider than me. But I don't want the skirt to be too small. So here's what I need: White and gold or white, poufy, and about knee length or just a couple inches above the knee. Thank you so much in advance!Well now i just answered my own question. I'm looking for a tutu. So my new question is where can I get a cheap tutu?
Question #15:
How much is Antique OldCourt Ware Staffordshire pottery worth ?
I Have 2 gold/green pieces a vase and jug with louis xv french style ART work on them both , they are both stamped on the bottom with the oldCourt Ware Staffordshire England mark . There is also D.H III marked on the bottom too . Any info on history and value would be much appreciated Thank you xox .Question #16:
Can you guess what are those?
They are either virtues or vices and sometimes actions that fall in between.1. I'm the disdainful one, born and raised by the flames of fires. I burn houses to the ground and leave no survivors. Let other know of me, for where is not heart, you find me near.
2. I like my spot in sunny banks and I have laid there ever since I could remember. I could barely speak, let alone walk. Let someone carry me for my seeker's place.
3. I seek every man's art and deed. What I have never suffice my need. Let all the books burn if I could not read.. and for all the listens I've been told, I never take heed.
4. I'm the herald of all virtues. I don't lean nor grieve. I stand tall when everyone accepts a fall and you'll find me standing till the storms are gone.
5. Let there be no man speaking in my presence. For I'm the one to whom heads bow. I am fed by silver and dressed in gold, my cover is silk and my crown is diamonds.
Come.. they're not that difficult. Every line has a hint.. find them and you'll have your answer.
Besides.. all the answers are things we come across every day in life.. even in Ramadan section.
--------------------
@ Abakelite- Come on.. try answering.
------------
@ Malik- Lol x] .. come on, it would be fun to see how the great Malik interprets simple lines ;]
ppppp..urgh.. ppp-lease.. there! Now do it :]

I have 400+ hours of volunteer work at the local library and our town's marsh conservatory.
Also, many of those hours are from working with different environmental conservatory programs.
Unfortunately, my school is very highly competitive and has over 550 people per class, and I am only ranked in the top 15-20% according to my GPA.
I want to major in anything related to the media and journalism!
(I've read that some schools don't value class ranking at all like UPenn)
Question #19:
Baseball Fans, Have You Ever Thought Of This Issue?
I've visited every active ballpark in the major leagues. This summer, I took in the last two I needed, one of which was Pittsburgh.
If you've never visited PNC Park, you're missing a true work of art in terms of location, design,
and overall experience. Stunning skyscraper views of downtown, huge gold bridges everywhere, simply put, gorgeous.
Then I realized something...Pittsburgh, despite its stellar ballpark, was the worst team in baseball.
So here's my question...
Obviously, everyone's #1 goal is a World Series...but if someone said to you "In the off season, we'll build the more beautiful ballpark in the league, but your team will be terrible....OR.....we'll make the team at least playoff caliber, but the new ballpark will be a dump"...what would you choose?
I'm asking because I realized, a lot of Pittsburghers go to PNC Park for a beautiful summer evening in a picturesque location, and are indifferent to the outcome of the game, and if the Pirates win, it's a bonus. In other words, is the overall experience of attending your team live as valuable to you as winning?
Question #20:
What do these poems mean?
"Shall I compare Thee" Sonnet 18Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds to shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed 1
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st 2
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
