Question #5:

Possible Australian 5 cent coin mint mistake?

I have a 5 cent piece that is the same size and weight as an old one cent piece. It weighs exactly 2.58 grams and it's diameter is about 17.5mm..
The weight is exact, but the measurement was taken with an ordinary ruler, so it's as close as I could get.
It has no serrations on the sides and the echidna is also only just fitting into the coin, it's little feet are touching the edges and it's head is touching the top of the coin with almost none of the top of it's head or it's spikes showing.
The script is also squished right up against the edges of the coin and is distorted...sorta elongated and all kinda flattened out.
The coin itself isn't distorted though, it's not like it's been left on the train tracks or anything like that, lol. The writing is actually stamped right onto the lip of the coin, giving it an almost bent appearance, and the lower bit looks flattened.
I think the metal is wrong as well. It's not silver looking like it should be, it has a flat kinda brassy look to it.
I know no one's gonna go to the effort of making counterfeit 5 cent pieces, lol, so any ideas, is this a mint mistake?
Hey darl, yeah, bring 'em down, I'd love a sticky beak, hee hee:)
You left your lighter here too honey. xoxo
**Yeah, well, now I've collected it, lol.
BTW- Happy birthday for yesterday sweetie. Come over if you get bored or lonely 'kay? xoxo

Question #8:

I have a coin the I have NO IDEA what it is. Help me?

it is entirely asian characters, no alphabet at all. on one side, there is a number 1 in the center with two circles and 4 asian characters at the bottom. on the other side, there is a twig, with two branches with 4 leaves total on one side of the twig, and one branch with 4 leaves on the other side of the twig, and 3 asian characters at the top of the coin, and 2 at the bottom. the coin is silver, and very lightweight. if anyone can help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Question #9:

What kind of coin is the size of a silver dollar but looks like a quarter?

My cousin found a coin, it is the size of a silver dollar, but looks like a quarter. The year is 1876 I think, and I believe it is made out of silver.

Is this a real coin? How much is it worth?
1865 not 1876
@Bill: No. Like I said, it looks like a current US quarter, but it is big like a silver dollar. If you took a quarter and blew it up to the size of a silver dollar and put 1865 on it, that is what you would have. Washington is on one side and an eagle that has it's wings spread is on the reverse, exactly like a current quarter. It is not a "seated liberty" coin.

Question #10:

Question #11:

What silver dollar would hold significance for use in an Army Commissioning Ceremony?

I am commissioning in December (Army National Guard, 2LT) and am looking for a silver dollar as part of our tradition of a first salute. Short story this is usually given to an NCO, and in the case of our formal ceremony we choose an NCO who has been influential in our development. I am very lucky to have a superior NCO, and I would like to reward him in kind by choosing a silver dollar with significance. I'm not rich, but I am willing to spend some money on this to make it special. I know nothing about coins. I'm looking for suggestions from coin experts as to what series, etc might be best. Year is not terribly important, though if I were to choose I would say the year I first started working with him in 2009 or when he enlisted in 1989.

Question #15:

"English Silver Penny" circa. 1625-42 value?

I have recently added/acquired an exceptionally rare "English Silver Penny" circa. 1625-42 "minted by the Tower of London, in England) to my collection (it is graded "fine" circulated). The trouble I've recently run into tho, is I've researched this coin time and time again, but cannot quite find an "actual" value for this coin. If anyone can help me with this, please help (your knowledge and expertise would be indispensable).

The history of this particular coin is exceptionally intriguing. It was minted under the reign of King Charles I in 1625 and lasted until 1642. Charles I was crowned 27th March, 1625 as the King of England. King Charles had an interesting reign, engaging himself in a power struggle between parliament, and himself (constantly it seems). what's really funny is Parliament especially loathed him, because he believed his "royal authority" to be that of divine right. Because of this, many of his subjects tremendously opposed him, and his actions (mainly that of his interference with English and Scottish Churches), but there were also times where he would levy taxes without the consent of Parliament, this particularly aggravated Parliament. But his naiveness eventually caught up to him, and by the latter part of his reign he was engaged in Civil War with Cromwell and lost, and by 1649 he was sentenced to death by execution.

How do I clean my coin?

Question #18:

Coins from the Mint or Graded Coins?

So, if I wanted to collect the Silver Dollars from the US Mint starting from 1986 to current, does it really matter that I purchase the coins that were directly released from the mint still sealed in a holder with COA and box, or should I pay much attention to the graded coins that are much higher in price? I can't imagine why one would entertain a graded coin for this line ... or anything released by the mint in Proof state. It seems extreme. But, I could be way off here and am certainly open to opinion.

Thanks,

Ed
